When Lily got onto the bus the next morning, she went through her mental checklist. Pusheen pencil case, Mrs. Karthik’s homework, math homework, science homework, water bottle, lunchbox, guitar, but Lily woke up in the middle of the night to practice her guitar (her parents were not happy).
As Lily clambered onto her seat as the bus started moving, she caught some of the other kids trying to look at Lily’s guitar case, Fubuki was trying to block them. “Sorry, they’ve barely ever seen a musical instrument before.” “That’s OK.” Lily said, calmly. But inside, Lily was bursting with laughter. They didn’t even know a musical instrument was inside the case!
When they got to school, she was daydreaming in every class, in science, Lily almost missed the directions on the zoo project. And in writing, she almost forgot to hand in her essay to Mrs. Karthik.
Finally, she made it to noon. She thought she was going to be bored to death by her classes, but she made it. She rushed down the hall to the practice room, happy to see her friends again. She felt very strange thinking the word friend, like she had known them for a long time. She walked into the practice room, where Violet, Skye, Sundew, and Bamboo we’re waiting for her. Violet nodded in approval of Lily bringing her guitar. “OK, now that we’re all here, should we get started?” Violet asked. They all nodded. “But, umm… Violet,” Lily started, “Where is your instrument?” Violet seemed happy that Lily had asked this. ”Well, of course, I didn’t bring my whole drum set to school, silly, so I’ll just use this school drum set.”
